THE FLATS — For the second consecutive week, nine Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets earned Preseason All-ACC honors. Senior DL Adam Gotsis headlined the Jackets’ honorees Monday on Athlon Sports‘ Preseason All-ACC teams.
While Gotsis earned first-team honors, redshirt junior C Freddie Burden, redshirt senior OL Bryan Chamberlain, junior LB P.J. Davis, and redshirt senior DB Jamal Golden were named to the second team. Redshirt junior QB Justin Thomas, redshirt senior OL Trey Braun, sophomore DE KeShun Freeman, and senior DB D.J. White earned third-team recognition.
Gotsis, a second-team All-ACC selection in 2014, started all 14 games along the defensive line. He tallied 36 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks for the Jackets.
Just last week, Phil Steele placed nine Yellow Jackets on his preseason All-ACC team, including Thomas and Gotsis on the first team. Burden, Jabari Hunt-Days, and Golden were named to the second team; Chamberlain, Freeman, and Davis landed on the third team, while Braun was named to the fourth team.
In his first year as the starter, Thomas started all 14 games under center and set a single-season school record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 1,086 yards on the ground. Behind an MVP performance, Thomas led the Jackets to the Capital One Orange Bowl title over Mississippi State to finish with an 11-3 record.
Georgia Tech returns six offensive starters from last year’s team that led the nation with a school-record 342.1 rushing yards per game. The Jackets return eight defensive starters from a season ago when Tech forced 29 turnovers and scored six defensive touchdowns.
