THE FLATS – Georgia Tech volleyball’s incoming 2017 class received highest honorable mention by PrepVolleyball.com. The Yellow Jackets welcome the seven-player class to The Flats for the 2017-178 season.
“We are excited to welcome all these talented players to the Flats,” said Tech head coach Michelle Collier. “This honor is a testament to the direction our program is going. These players will be a great complement to our returning group and I look forward to continue our progress from the past three seasons. We have an extremely talented group of players in our 2017 season and I can’t wait to get them all in the gym in August.”
Collier completed the 2017 class in April when Dominique Washington (5’10, OH, Hoffman Estates, Ill.), Alessia Del Romano (6’0, OH, Bologna, Italy) and Samantha Knapp (5’6, DS, Orlando, Fla.) joined fall signees Nicole Alford (Setter, Annapolis, Md.), Cori Clifton (Right Side, Williamsburg, Va.), Grace Rigsbee (Right Side, Suwanee, Ga.) and Kendall Wilson (Middle Blocker, Fayetteville, Ga.).
The 2017 season marks Collier’s fourth as head coach on The Flats. The 2016 campaign was the best season for the Yellow Jackets since 2004, recording the best overall (.750) and ACC (.750) winning percentages in 12 years. With a 10-match winning streak, Collier led the Jackets to winning streaks of at least seven matches in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 2006 and 2007 seasons.
The Jackets posted nine wins on the road during the 2016 season, including the first victory over Duke in Durham since Oct. 9, 2004. Tech finished the season tied for third in the ACC and was in the top 50 of the NCAA RPI all season.
Beyond the court, Georgia Tech volleyball was one of three programs at Georgia Tech to receive an NCAA Public Recognition Award for having Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores that rank among the top 10 percent nationally in women’s volleyball for the four-year period ending in 2015-16.
