THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field sends 15 Jackets to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminaries in Lexington, Ky., as announced by the NCAA on Thursday afternoon. The East Prelims start Thursday, May 25 and run through Saturday, May 27.
Eight athletes from the women’s squad make the trip to Lexington. Jeanine Williams headlines the group with the fifth-best seed time in the 100m hurdles. Williams placed second in the event at the ACC Championships with a time of 12.99. Kenya Collins joins her in the event.
Marinice Bauman competes in the NCAA Regional for the first time in her career in the 400m hurdles. Melissa Fairey takes on the women’s 10,000m. She finished fifth at the ACC Championships for All-ACC second team honors. Ksenia Novikova will compete in the pole vault, also finishing fifth at the ACC Championships for All-ACC second team honors.
Raven Stewart and Brianna Hayden will join Williams and Collins in the 4x100m relay with Carissa Tipler serving as an alternate.
On the men’s side, William Solomon represents the Yellow Jackets in both the triple and long jumps. He took All-ACC honors in both events at the championships, reaching the podium with a third-place leap in the long jump. Avery Bartlett and Andres Littig will both race in the 800m. During the indoor season, Bartlett competed at the NCAA Championships in the 800m but did not advance to the finals.
Senior Alex Grady will race in the 3000m steeplechase. He ranks fourth in Georgia Tech history for the event. Zachary Gunnz will run in the men’s 200m. Andreas Ward completes the team on the men’s side, competing in the 110m hurdles. Ward finished fifth in the event at the ACC Championships for All-ACC second team honors.
