10 Hits Drive the Yellow Jackets Past GSU

Final Box (.pdf)

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball’s 10 hits and four runs over the final two innings powered it passed Georgia State, 7-3, on Tuesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (4-3) led the whole way, scoring in the first two innings before having five runs over the sixth, seventh and eighth. Georgia State (3-4) recorded six hits on the day but two errors extended key innings for their defense.

Senior relief pitcher Keyton Gibson (1-0) was the most effective Jacket on the mound on Tuesday, throwing 3.0 no-hit innings, while fanning four. Georgia State’s Joseph Brandon (0-1) receives the loss after allowing two runs in three innings

Tech’s bats responded well after a cold end to the weekend. Michael Guldberg led the team with a 3-for-4, two run outing while six separate Jackets recorded hits on the night. The top at-bat of the game came for Colin Hall in the seventh inning when, after taking a 15-pitch appearance and fouling off eight-straight pitches, Hall rocketed a single to right center to plate two.

The Panthers’ offense came from three batters. Terrell Frazier, Elian Merejo and Daino Deas all finished with two hits  with Merejo having two RBI.

Tech started freshman Cort Roedig, who went the first four innings, allowing just one run and three hits. Tristin English got the close, allowing two runs in 2.0 innings, fanning one. GSU used five pitchers out of the bullpen on the evening, with Griffin Bonner going the longest (1.0 IP), allowing two runs and one hit while issuing two free passes.

The Yellow Jackets face Georgia State again on Wednesday at the GSU Panthers Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
