Yellow Jackets' Marshall Earns Second ACC Weekly Accolade

Nov. 22, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech freshman Tyaunna Marshall was named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending Nov. 21, announced today by the league office.

It is the second consecutive week that Marshall has been honored by the conference as she was named Co-Rookie of the Week after her first two collegiate games.

Marshall led Tech to a 2-1 week, with the lone blemish coming Nov. 21 to #1/1 ranked Connecticut. She averaged a team-best 13.3 ppg on 45.9 percent shooting for the week. Marshall also pulled in 6.7 rpg, dished out 3.5 apg and grabbed 2.0 spg.

Against top-ranked UConn she led the Yellow Jackets with 23 points on 10-of-20 shooting and added six boards. In the only game of her career she hasn’t scored in double figures, against Prairie View A&M, she hauled in 10 rebounds, eight of which came on the offensive glass, to help Tech to a 61-37 win. She opened the week with 12 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists in only 20 minutes as the Yellow Jackets downed Kennesaw State, 79-60.

She is the first Yellow Jacket to earn multiple ACC Rookie of the Week honors since Alex Montgomery had two in 2007-08. Marshall is also the first Yellow Jacket to win the honor in consecutive weeks since Niesha Butler earned it three straight times, Nov. 23, Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, to begin the 1998-99 season and also won it back-to-back on Jan. 25 and Feb.

Marshall and the Yellow Jackets return to action this week at the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Tech will face #13/13 Georgetown Thursday at 8 p.m. ET, #4/4 Tennessee Friday at 8 p.m. ET and Missouri at 5:45 p.m. ET Saturday. Fans can watch the action from the Virgin Islands live online via Fox College Sports Broadband for a one-time fee of $4.99.
