GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech freshman Tyaunna Marshall was named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending Nov. 14, announced today by the league office.
Marshall earns her first career weekly conference accolade after posting double-digit scoring outputs in her first two collegiate games, both of which she started. In the season-opening win over Georgia State, Marshall tallied a game-high 18 points, and added four rebounds, two assists and two steals while not committing a turnover in 24 minutes of action.
The 18 points in the opener were the most by a freshman in her first career game at Georgia Tech under head coach MaChelle Joseph.
In her first road game at Old Dominion, Marshall, who was playing in front of a large contingent of family and friends, tossed in 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting. She capped another solid all-around game with eight rebounds, four assists and a steal in 32 minutes. Marshall was the second-leading scorer for the Jackets and in the game against the Lady Monarchs.
Through two games, the rookie from Upper Marlboro, Md., leads the Yellow Jackets with a 17.0 ppg average. She is second on the squad with 6.0 rpg, 3.0 apg and is tied for second with 1.5 spg. For the week, she converted 14-of-27 field goal attempts, good for a blistering 51.9 percent conversion rate.
Marshall shared the honor with Florida State forward Natasha Howard who led FSU in its opener with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting and seven rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets return to Alexander Memorial Coliseum for a three-game homestand with contests against Kennesaw State (Nov. 17), Prairie View A&M (Nov. 19) and #1/1 ranked Connecticut (Nov. 21). Tickets are available for all games and can be purchased at www.ramblinwrek.com or by calling 800-TECH TIX.
