Yellow Jackets Host Post-Season Banquet

April 21, 2011

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team officially wrapped up its record setting season with its annual awards banquet on Wednesday night at the Georgia Tech Hotel & Convention Center.

Head Coach MaChelle Joseph and her staff presented the team with various awards throughout the evening for their accomplishments on the court. The Yellow Jackets also recognized and honored several individuals that made a significant impact off the court this season.

The Yellow Jackets set several records during the 2010-11 season. Tech finished with a program-best 24 wins and notched only its third NCAA Tournament victory as the Jackets defeated Bowling Green, 69-58, in the NCAA First Round in Columbus, Ohio. Tech also tied a pair of school records with nine ACC wins and 14 home wins.

Georgia Tech hosted a school-record crowd when 7,325 people clicked through the turnstiles at Alexander Memorial Coliseum for the Yellow Jackets’ contest with No. 1 ranked Connecticut on Nov. 21. Tech added a top-five attendance mark two weeks later when 5,015 fans came to see the Yellow Jackets hand the No. 21/22 ranked Georgia Lady Bulldogs a 16-point loss, Tech’s largest ever against the rivals from Athens.

Tech also set a school record with a 13-game winning streak from Nov. 27 to Jan. 21, and finished the season ranked 24th nationally.

The senior class of Alex Montgomery and Deja Foster wrapped up their brilliant four-year careers as the Institute’s all-time winningest class. The duo was a part of 91 career wins, eclipsing the mark of 88 set by the 2010 class of Brigitte Ardossi and Tiffany Blackmon.
