Georgia Tech vs. MTSU Game Notes
The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (5-3) will try to rebound from a tough loss to No. 15/14 Georgia on Dec. 4 when it travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to take on the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders (6-4) Sunday at 2 p.m. Central at the Murphy Center on the MTSU campus.
Georgia Tech and Middle Tennessee State have met only once previously, a 68-48 Yellow Jacket win last year in Atlanta. In last year’s meeting, Alex Montgomery finished with game-highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Tech. Then-freshman Tyaunna Marshall was 6-of-10 from the field to add 13 points.
The matchup with the Yellow Jackets will be the Blue Raiders’ fourth game in nine days, a stretch in which MTSU has gone 2-1 with wins over Austin Peay and Xavier. Sophomore Ebony Rowe led the Blue Raiders in Friday night’s win at Xavier with game-highs of 24 points and 13 rebounds. Ten of her 13 rebounds came on the offensive end. Junior Kortni Jones added 18 points for MTSU.
On This Date: Georgia Tech is 6-3 when playing on Dec. 16. The six wins: 87-69 vs. Oregon (12/16/09); 70-58 at Mississippi State (12/16/07); 94-60 at Chattanooga (12/16/98); 86-68 vs. Clemson (12/16/92); 79-77 vs. Pepperdine (12/16/86) and 79-43 at Florida International (12/16/80).
The three losses: 66-69 at Santa Clara (12/16/89); 80-90 vs. Clemson (12/16/85); 78-86 (OT) vs. West Virginia (12/16/83).
Tech Against The Sun Belt: Georgia Tech is just 5-1 (.800) against teams from the Sun Belt. The Yellow Jackets are 1-0 against MTSU all-time and the Blue Raiders are the only team from the Sun Belt on Tech’s regular season schedule this year.
