Yellow Jackets Head Back To North Carolina to Face Wake Forest Sunday

Atlanta – Georgia Tech (12-8, 3-3) heads to Wake Forest to take on the Demon Deacons Sunday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. in the Joel Coliseum in search of their fourth Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season.

The Jackets are 29-and-22 all-time when facing Wake Forest and won the last meeting, on Jan. 22, 2006, 66-61. Senior guard Stephanie Higgs led all scorers in last year’s game with Wake, with 19 points adding four rebounds and two steals. Higgs leads the Jackets in scoring this season averaging 15.2 PPG.

Chioma Nnamaka, who’s currently second on the team in scoring with 13.2 PPG, scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds last season against the Deacs. The Uppsala, Sweden native is coming off a similar performance tallying 10 points and seven boards in Tech’s last outing, a 60-49 win over Boston College Thursday.

The Jackets are 4-and-4 in road games this season and have won one of their two ACC road tests. The Jan. 7 win at Clemson was Tech’s first conference road win since defeating Wake Forest on Feb. 7, 2006 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Tech is coming off a 60-49 win over Boston College Thursday and was led by Higgs in scoring for the seventh time this season with 16 points.

With a win Sunday, the Jackets will bring their conference record to above .500. The Jackets have never finished with a winning ACC record.

Sunday’s game at Wake Forest will mark Tech’s fourth trip this season to the state of North Carolina. The Jackets have also traveled to face Appalachian State, North Carolina and Duke.
