THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track & field started a split weekend in Raleigh, N.C. and Tallahassee, Fla. on Thursday with several podium finishes including four event wins.
In Raleigh, Nicole Fegans took home the win in the women’s 10000m with a time of 33:00.89. Fegans is known for her success in this event as the reigning ACC Outdoor Champion.
In Tallahassee at the Florida State relays, Yellow Jackets were consistently at the top of their events. Shanty Papakosta was the best women’s high jumper for the second straight meet. She posted a mark of 5’8 ½” (1.74m) to take the top spot. Carla Du Plessis finished second in the women’s high jump with a mark of 5’4 ½” (1.64m).
The men’s side in Tallahassee took home first place finishes courtesy of McKinley Thompson in the men’s high jump 6’5 ½” (1.97m) and Miguel Schlicht in the men’s 5000m (14:53.91). Devin Wade also turned in a podium finish, placing second in the men’s 5000m (14:55.29).
The long jump was another source of success in Tallahassee as Mikayla Williams finished second in the women’s long jump (5.64m) and Cameron O’Neal finished third among attached athletes in the men’s long jump (6.99m).
The White and Gold continue the split weekend in Raleigh and Tallahassee on Friday.
