THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis was announced Monday. The first event of the season is the MLK Invitational tournament at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex from Jan. 15-17.
“We have a good tough schedule as usual. The ACC is deeper than it has been in a while. Our out of conference matches allow for opportunities against some of the best teams in the nation,” Byer’s Men’s Tennis Head Coach Kenny Thorne said. “We are looking to start strong this season and it starts with our team staying in good shape over the break. We finished fall season strong so we need to pick it right back up in January.”
The Yellow Jackets stay home for their next two matches against Georgia State (Jan. 21) and The Citadel (Jan. 23) before heading off the Charlottesville for the ITA Kickoff Weekend starting Jan. 29.
In the same bracket as the Jackets is Virginia, Middle Tennessee State and Ball State. The White and Gold start the weekend against Middle Tennessee State.
Tech rolls into February with a Sunday meeting against in-state rival Georgia on Feb. 13 before heading off to ITA National Indoors in Seattle from Feb. 18-21.
The next two months of the season start ACC conference play. The Yellow Jackets start on the road at Notre Dame (March 4) and Louisville (March 6) before opening their home conference schedule versus Virginia on March 18.
The White and Gold start postseason play on April 20 with the ACC Tournament in Rome, Ga. The Jackets start NCAA tournament play from March 6-8 with NCAA Regionals followed by Super Regionals from March 13-14 and Finals from March 19-28.
The Jackets are coming off a successful fall season that saw Andres Martin win the ITA Men’s Southeast Regionals main draw and the Men’s Doubles main draw with partner Marcus McDaniel. The doubles pairing of McDaniel/Martin went on to reach the semifinals of the doubles main draw at ITA Fall Nationals.
