OXFORD, Ala. – The Georgia Tech women’s and men’s cross country teams took first and second place, respectively, at the Foothills Invitational Saturday morning in Oxford, Ala. The cooler temperatures and dry conditions seemed to favor the Yellow Jackets, who had eleven career bests on the day.

“We’re really pleased with the performances today from both teams,” said head coach Alan Drosky. “They took advantage of almost ideal conditions and produced some really fast times, many running career bests. We’ll add this group to the group that raced last week and look forward to putting them all together in two weeks.”

The women took their second win of the 2016 season, having topped Kennesaw State in the season opener. Junior Haley Anderson won the race, placing first in the 5k with a career-best time of 18:10.3. Haley Stumvoll took second with a time of 18:13.7, another career best. Courtney Naser and Rebecca Entrekin rounded out the top five at the meet with times of 18:19.1 and 18:28.9 respectively, both achieving career bests. Juanita Pardo also raced a career best, placing 15th with a time of 18:50.8. After redshirting last season, Jocelyn Brown came in 37th with a time of 20:24.9 in her first cross country race as a Jacket.

The men placed second at the invitational with 61 points, finishing behind Chattanooga (30 points). Sophomore Ryan Peck finished first for the Jackets, coming in fifth place with a career-best time of 25:29.3, nearly four minutes faster than his previous career best. Sam Millson finished in 10th and second for the Jackets with another career best of 25:39.8. Chris Burnett and Eamon McCoy finished in succession taking the No. 14 and 15 spots, racing times of 25:43.1 and 25:51.0. Junior Ryan Miller notched a career best of 26:07.1 in the 8k and a 19th-place finish. Isaac Penman finished 24th with a career-best time of 26:39.9. Witt Nix rounded out the top seven for the Jackets with a time of 26:49.7.

The Jackets will race next at the Crimson Classic on Friday, Oct. 14 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., hosted by Alabama.
