Women's Basketball Wins Final Game of Australian Tour

CAIRNS, Australia (May 16) — The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team won the final game of its Australian tour today, defeating the Cairns Dolphins, 94-58.

The Yellow Jackets showed off their young talent, with rising sophomores Amy Lingenfelder and Tamika Boatner each scoring 19 points. Boatner posted her second double-double of the five-game tour, pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds. Classmate Sonja Mallory added 13 points and Nina Barlin led the team with five assists.

Georgia Tech shot 48 percent from the field and outrebounded Cairns, 49-32. The Rambling Wreck also blocked six shots, with Boatner, Mallory and rising junior Lindsay Aves each swatting down two.

The Yellow Jackets, who led 48-35 at halftime, held Cairns to just 23 points in the second half.

Georgia Tech will spend its final two days of the tour in Cairns. The team plans to tour the Wildlife Park and spend time on the beach Wednesday before taking a boat to the Great Barrier Reef on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets return to Atlanta on May 19.
