THE FLATS – Highlighted by seven contests in McCamish Pavilion, the 2023-24 Georgia Tech women’s basketball non-conference schedule was announced on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets will travel for three road games in addition to the Cancun Challenge over the Thanksgiving holiday.
In the 12-game non-conference schedule, Georgia Tech will face six teams that competed in postseason tournaments last season and four teams that recorded 20-plus win seasons a year ago. Fans will get a preview of the 2023-24 squad when Georgia Tech hosts Georgia College in exhibition play on Nov. 2.
The non-conference slate officially tips-off on Nov. 6 when the Yellow Jackets welcome Coastal Carolina to McCamish Pavilion. Furman visits on Nov. 11 before Tech makes its first road trip of the season to Rice for a contest on Nov. 16. The Jackets return home to welcome Kennesaw State on Nov. 19 before heading to Cancun, Mexico for the Cancun Challenge.
Georgia Tech joins the 10-team field in Cancun as part of the Riviera Division, playing two games at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. The Yellow Jackets will face Creighton and New Mexico on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24, respectively. Capping the season at 22-9 overall last year, Creighton reached the semifinals of the Big East Tournament before earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Tech will face a quick turnaround against New Mexico the following day. The Lobos are coming off a successful season with a trip to the WNIT second round after a quarterfinal appearance in the Mountain West Conference tournament.
The Yellow Jackets return from the holiday tournament to host Florida on Nov. 29 in the inaugural ACC/SEC Women’s Basketball Challenge. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. in McCamish Pavilion and the game will be televised on an ESPN network.
The month of December features five games and opens with a trip to Nebraska on Dec. 2 for the third meeting in program history between the Yellow Jackets and Huskers. Following the trip to Lincoln, Neb., Georgia Tech hosts a two-game homestand against Mercer (Dec. 5) and Georgia State (Dec. 10).
Georgia Tech will play its final non-conference road game on Dec. 16 when it makes the short trip to in-state rival, Georgia. The non-conference schedule concludes on Dec. 20 when the Yellow Jackets host USC Upstate.
Season ticket information for the upcoming women’s basketball season will be available soon.
Guided by fifth-year head coach Nell Fortner, Georgia Tech returns seven letterwinners from last season’s squad, while welcoming six newcomers, including a pair of transfers.
