Box Score

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team improved to 3-0 with a 75-70 victory over Georgia State tonight at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

Milli Martinez led the Yellow Jackets with 21 points, eight rebounds and four steals as Tech defeated its cross-town rival for the seventh time in the last eight meetings.

Tamika Boatner continued her red-hot start to the season with her second double-double in three games. The sophomore center scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Nina Barlin (11 points), Niesha Butler (13 points) and Alex Stewart (10 points) all scored in double figures as the Yellow Jackets used a well-balanced attack in the victory.

Georgia Tech forced 24 Georgia State turnovers on 18 steals and capitalized with 30 fast-break points to pull away from the Lady Panthers.

After trading leads through much of the game, the Yellow Jackets went on a 15-4 run to take a 62-51 lead with 7:18 remaining in the game. Although the Lady Panthers were able to pull to within one in the final minutes, they never regained the lead.

Leslie McElrath led five Lady Panthers in double figures in scoring. She had 19 points and eight rebounds, but it was not enough as GSU fell to 2-2.

The Yellow Jackets concluded their season-opening homestand and hit the road for a game against nationally-ranked Mississippi State Sunday at 5:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised by FOX Sports South.
