ATLANTA — The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will make its second-straight appearnace in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament, head coach Agnus Berenato announced Sunday night. The Yellow Jackets will face Mississippi State at Humphey Coliseum in Starkville, Miss. on Thursday, March 15th.
“We’re very excited to be going back to the WNIT,” Berenato said. “We had a great experience last year in the WNIT and won it in 1992. We have a very young team and it’s a great opportunity for us to get another taste of postseason play.”20
The Yellow Jackets, who won two of their last three games and beat two ranked opponents during the season, have a 14-14 record. Mississippi State finished the regular season with a 15-13 overall record after winning three of their last four games and five of their last seven contests. The Bulldogs defeated Georgia Tech, 88-68 in Starkville on December 3, when Mississippi State was ranked 16th nationally. The Bulldogs own a 2-0 series advantage after beating Tech last year in Atlanta.
Georgia Tech earned back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time since 1992-93. Last year the Yellow Jackets defeated Southern Mississippi in the first round of the WNIT and Chattanooga in the second round before falling to Arkansas.20
The Yellow Jackets, who won the WNIT in 1992, are 5-1 all-time in the tournament.
