Wilkinson and Higgs Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Gerris Wilkinson and Stephanie Higgs were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, November 28, 2005.

Wilkinson, a senior from Oakland, Calif., had six tackles, two sacks and a pass breakup to lead Georgia Tech’s outstanding defensive effort against 13th-ranked Georgia. Wilkinson and the Tech defense held the Bulldogs to 266 yards of total offense and just 68 yards rushing. Georgia’s 14 points was its lowest total of the season except for the Florida game in which starting quarterback D.J. Shockley did not play. Over the last two games, the Tech defense has allowed a combined total of 24 points, 503 total yards and 98 yards rushing to 13th-ranked Georgia and third-ranked Miami.

Higgs, a junior from Lawrenceville, Ga., helped the women’s basketball team to two wins on the week. Against the College of Charleston, Higgs recorded 17 points and five rebounds helping Tech to a 66-50 win. Against Appalachian State, Higgs had 13 points and six rebounds and also added three steals to lead the Jackets to a 68-45 victory. On the week, Higgs averaged 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds.
