THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field team finished day one at their Yellow Jacket Invite at Griffin Track on a chilly Friday night. The only event on the night was the women’s and men’s 5,000m.

A swarm of Yellow Jackets ran in the men’s 5,000 meters with Justin Weaver leading the Jackets. Weaver placed third in a personal-best time of 15:13.63 – almost five seconds off his previous best – to finish first for Tech and second among collegiate competitors.

Witt Nix had a last second kick and just beat Terrell Estime running unattached to take fourth in a career-best time of 15:21.03.

Tanner Shaw took sixth (15:25.72), Alex Grady placed 14th (15:40.49) and Ryan Miller finished 16th (15:41.61) to round out Tech’s top five finishers.

Tech’s lone competitor in the women’s race, Hailey Gollnick, placed 18th with a time of 18:28.54.

Action at the Yellow Jacket Invite continues Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the shot put and running events begin at 12:30 p.m. with the 4×100-meter relay.
