Volleyball Set For Weekend Matches In Sunshine State

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Volleyball team (9-4, 3-0 ACC) will travel down to the Sunshine State for a pair of conference matches this weekend. On Friday, Tech plays at No. 17 Florida State (7 p.m.) in a match that features two of the three undefeated teams in league play. On Sunday, the Jackets will play a 1 p.m. match at Miami.

The 17th-ranked Seminoles enter Friday night’s match with a 12-1 overall record and are 3-0 in the ACC. FSU’s only loss this season came in five sets against No. 12 Florida. The Yellow Jackets are 27-10 all-time against Florida State with the two schools splitting a pair of meetings last year each winning on its home floor.

Miami, meanwhile, is 8-5 overall and 1-2 in league play. Tech is 5-4 all-time against the Hurricanes and lost both matches last season. Fans can follow both matches this weekend with live stats via the Gametracker link at www.RamblinWreck.com.

After sweeping both NC State and North Carolina last weekend, the Yellow Jackets are 3-0 in ACC play and off to their best start since going undefeated in the league back in 2004. Sophomore outside hitter Bailey Hunter has recorded double-figure kills in each of her last 11 matches, including the most recent one against UNC where she hit .619 for the match and did not commit an error. She is currently third in the ACC with 3.52 kills per set.

Sophomore Asia Stawicka is second in the league and 16th in the nation hitting .411 and has committed just 16 attacking errors all year. In addition, Stawicka is fifth with 1.14 blocks per set. Freshman Monique Mead, who has a team-high four double-doubles, is seventh in kills (3.02/set). Junior Mary Ashley Tippins sets up the Tech attack as she ranks first in the league and 23rd nationally with 10.92 assists per set. Junior Jordan McCullers is recording 3.76 digs per set to rank seventh in the league.

As a team, the Yellow Jackets rank first in the league and 29th in the nation with 13.66 kills per set. In addition, Tech is fifth in hitting percentage (.242), ninth in opponent hitting percentage (.203), second in assists (12.60), seventh in blocks (2.19), seventh in service aces (1.18) and 11th in digs (11.84).
