ATLANTA – Behind the hitting of Eida Mabry, who tallied 20 kills on 36 attempts (.389), the Georgia Tech (11-4, 2-1) volleyball team defeated the University of Virginia (6-8, 2-2) in four games, 15-6, 13-15, 15-5, 15-8, on Friday night in front of 1,030 fans.
The Jackets hit an impressive .365 for the match, and had four players finish with double figure kills and five finish with double figure digs. Maja Pachale had her best hitting night of the season as she connected for 18 kills on 34 attempts (.471) and also recorded a team-high 17 digs. Kyleen Bell also finished with 18 kills on 34 attempts (.441) and tallied 17 digs, while Teryl Townsend notched 14 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Kele Eveland led the offense for the Jackets as she tallied 66 assists and recorded 16 digs.
Virginia was led by senior middle blocker Deanna Zwarich who posted 24 kills on 56 attempts (.389), followed by freshman outside hitter Paige Davis who had 22 kills on 58 attempts (.276). Defensively the Cavaliers were led by Katie Jones who notched 15 digs on the night.
The Yellow Jackets will host the University of Maryland (9-6, 1-3) at 7 p.m. on Saturday night in O’Keefe Gymnasium.
