ATLANTA (April 2) – After leading the Georgia Tech softball team to a 3-1 record last week, Yellow Jacket freshman hurler Erin Voeltz has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office on April 2.
Voeltz, a native of Westlake, Calif., finished the week with a perfect 3-0 record as she won a pair of games against Harvard and picked up a complete-game win over 16th-ranked Florida State on Saturday afternoon. She did not allow an earned run in a relief appearance against the Crimson in the first game and then picked up a complete-game win over Harvard in the second game of the doubleheader on March 27.
Against the Seminoles on Saturday, Voeltz went the distance once again as she held FSU to five hits and one earned run, while striking out six, in a 2-1 Tech victory. For the week, she tossed a pair of complete games, struck out 14 opposing hitters while walking only one of the 64 batters she faced to finish with a 0.40 ERA. The win over Florida State marked only the fourth time, and third time in two years, that Georgia Tech has defeated the Seminoles.
Voeltz and her Tech teammates will return to action on Tuesday, April 3, when they host Mercer for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Glenn Field.
