Ünlü Earns Silver Medal in Men’s 200 Free

THE FLATS – Batur Ünlü led the Georgia Tech swim and dive teams by earning the silver medal in the men’s 200 free.

In an exciting race, Ünlü tied NC State’s Piszczorowicz for second place with an All-ACC time of 1:32.47. The junior is the first All-ACC honoree in the event since the 2009 ACC Championship. In the preliminaries, he qualified for the ‘A’ Final with a third-place time of 1:33.60. Ünlü is the only Yellow Jacket to finish on the podium at this year’s championships after placing second in the men’s 500 free on Wednesday.

Tech had six swimmers qualify for the finals today. Deniz Ertan and McKenzie Campbell were the first two to qualify in the women’s 400 IM. Ertan placed second in her heat and finished eighth overall in the event with a time of 4:13.14. Campbell placed fourth in the ‘B’ Final with a time of 4:13.65.

In the men’s 400 IM, Nils Bognar and Antonio Romero both earned qualifying times. Bognar swam an impressive NCAA B Cut time of 3:45.80 to place second in the ‘B’ Final. Romero recorded a fifth-place time of 3:49.19 in the ‘C’ Final.

The final Jacket to qualify for the finals was Zora Ripkova in the women’s 100 fly. Ripkova finished 17th overall in the preliminaries and seventh in the ‘C’ Final with a time of 53.33.

In the men’s 3M diving event, Elijah Klier scored for Tech with a 19th place finish and score of 299.95 points.


The Jackets will continue competition on Friday, Feb. 17 with the 200 Fly, 100 Back, 100 Breast and Women’s Platform Event.
