THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s track and field concluded the first day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with two Honorable Mention All-Americans in the 3000m steeplechase and shot put.
Zach Jaeger kicked off competition in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing with a time of 8:47.94. Jaeger was ranked 31st in the NCAA, came into the race at 20th and improve three position as he finished 17th overall. He is the first men’s All-American for Tech in the event since school record holder, Eric Smith, in 1987.
Jamir Gibson competed in the shot put, recording a mark of 17.37 meters (57-0). Gibson had been ranked 39th in the NCAA before entering the championships where he finished 23rd overall. The graduate student will be back in action on Friday, June 9 in the men’s discus.
