Twelve More Top-10 Finishes for Jackets on Day Two of Wake Forest Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Shantia Moss crossed the line first in an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.22 in the women’s 100-meter hurdles to lead Georgia Tech on day two of the Wake Forest Open on Saturday.

Moss was followed by senior Fatmata Fofanah, who crossed the line second, also with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.45. Sophomore Dave Ford finished the men’s 110-meter hurdles in eighth place with a time of 14.63. Sophomore Mario Johnson placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.42.

Senior Ashlee Kidd sprinted to a second-place finish in the women’s 100-meter dash with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 11.58. Kidd then ran a personal-best and NCAA Regional qualifying time of 23.24 in the 200-meter dash to finish first. Junior Shantrell Moss placed ninth in the 200 with a time of 24.30.

In the men’s 200m dash, sophomore Matt DiDia finished in 38th place with a personal-best time of 22.39.

Senior Jenny Sims placed sixth out of 99 competitors in the women’s 1500-meter run with a time of 4:34.00. Junior Nisha Kurian placed eighth in the 1500m race with a time of 4:34.93. Sophomore E.C. Gibbs finished the men’s 1500m in third place out of 114 competitors with a time of 3:53.19.

Senior James Lemons II, who placed second in the triple jump yesterday, landed in eighth place in the long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 3 ¼ inches.

Sophomore Kimery Hern set a personal-best mark in the women’s hammer throw with a NCAA Regional qualifying toss of 188 feet, 7 inches to place third.

The Georgia Tech track and field teams will be home next weekend as they host the 2007 Yellow Jacket Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31. The event will kick off on Friday evening with women’s hammer throw beginning at 6 p.m. Competition will resume on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the women’s shot put. Running events will commence with the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 1:00 p.m.
