ATLANTA – – Looking to better their marks for NCAA qualification, three members of the Georgia Tech women’s track & field team will travel to the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet this weekend in Blacksburg, Va.
“It’s a small group that is traveling back to Virginia Tech for this week’s last chance opportunity,” women’s head coach Alan Drosky said. “But all three will have great competition and an excellent venue to improve their performances.”
Sophomore Erica Penk and freshman Bailey Wagner will compete at the Rector Field House for the third-time this season in attempts to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships March 13-14 in College Station, Texas. Sophomore Joanna Wright, who has already provisionally qualified for the NCAA’s, will look to extend her personal-best and secure an automatic berth to the Championships.
Wright’s 13’1.50″ in the pole vault is currently tied for the 28th-best mark in the NCAA, but a 13’9.25″ clearance would automatically punch her ticket to the big meet. Penk’s best pole vault clearance of 12’9.50″ is two inches shy of a provisional mark, while Wagner’s top distance of 49’10” in the shot put is just half an inch short of the provisional tally.
All three posted career-high marks last week at the ACC Indoor Championships, while Wright and Wagner grabbed silver in their respective events.
