THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field program announced its 2023 outdoor schedule on Monday. The Jackets are set to open the season at home with the Yellow Jacket Invite on March 17-18 at the Griffin Track & Field Facility.
In addition to the Yellow Jacket Invite, Tech will also host the Georgia Tech Invite on April 21-22. For most of the season, the Jackets will be on road as they are set to compete at seven different meets and locations.
Following its first home meet, Tech will travel to two meets hosted by ACC competitors. From March 23-24, the Jackets will split their time competing at the Florida State Relays and Raleigh Relays. Tech is also set to compete a bit closer to home with two meets hosted by top programs in the country. The Jackets head to in-state rival, Georgia, for its Spec Towns Invite on April 7-8. They are set to travel to Auburn the following weekend for the War Eagle Invite on April 14-15.
The Jackets return to Raleigh, starting postseason competition with the ACC Outdoor Championships at NC State from May 11-13.
Any qualifying athletes will be given the chance to compete and earned their spot for the national meet at the NCAA East Preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 24-27. The track and field season will conclude with the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships, which will take place from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.
Heading into outdoor, the Jackets will look to continue and improve upon their success from the indoor season. The major standout for Tech this year has been Shanty Papakosta, who claimed the ACC Championships title and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the women’s high jump.
Several other Jackets are expected to perform well for Tech this season. On the men’s side, Jamir Gibson and John Watkins will likely continue to lead Tech in the field events. Tech also has several promising track athletes in Jameson Miller, Parker Buchheit and James Cragin.
The women’s team has several All-ACC honorees and past NCAA Preliminaries qualifiers including Taylor Grimes, Lydia Troupe and Sheleah Harris. The women’s mid distance and distance programs will most likely be led by top performers from the indoor season including Riley Perlakowski, Helena Lindsay and many others.
