ATLANTA – Three Georgia Tech women’s basketball players – Janie Mitchell, Iasia Hemingway and Deja Foster – were among 121 Yellow Jacket student-athletes honored in the 2007-08 Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll.
The ACC released its 52nd Academic Honor Roll last Wednesday, recognizing academic excellence among its student-athletes. To be considered, an athlete must maintain a 3.0 GPA for the entire academic year.
“I am so proud of our players and what they have accomplished academically this past year,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “To have three of our student-athletes named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll is a tremendous honor for our program.”
Mitchell, a recent graduate from Jackson, Miss., was named to the academic honor roll for the first time in her career. Mitchell earned Third Team All-ACC honors as a senior after leading the Jackets in scoring (16.4) and rebounding (6.3).
Hemingway and Foster capped off their first seasons on the Flats by earning their first career honors. The duo helped the Jackets to a 22-10 record and the program’s second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
“Janie, Deja, and Iasia have worked extremely hard academically and were all very instrumental in our success on the court as well,” Joseph added. “We have very high goals for our team and program, the bar has been set very high. I am proud of the leadership and commitment academically these three along with the rest of our women’s basketball team have shown.”
