CARY, N.C. — Three Yellow Jackets picked up singles wins to advance to the semifinals as the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team opened fall competition on Friday at the Duke Invitational. The fall tournament is being played at the Cary Tennis Park.
The first day of competition started with two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles play.
After a tough opening to the day with doubles action, the Jackets rebounded in singles play. Both newcomers picked up wins in their first outings as Yellow Jackets as Victoria Flores downed Tai Martin of UNC Charlotte, 6-1, 6-4, and Ida Jarlskog routed Rebecca Smaller of Duke, 6-0, 6-1. Returner Kenya Jones, who appeared on the ITA preseason rankings at No. 103, was also victorious on the day, defeating Furman’s Aryn Greene, 7-5, 6-3.
Action continues on Saturday with the final round of doubles beginning at 9 a.m. Singles action will begin approximately 12:30 p.m. with the semifinal round.
