Three First-Place Finishes Highlight Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Senior Jonathan Gardner and juniors Brandon Lasater and Jeremy Greenwald won their events to highlight the first full day of competition of the outdoor season for the Georgia Tech track and field team at the Alabama Relays at Sam Bailey Stadium.

Gardner, who did not compete during the indoor season, returned to the sand pit and won the triple jump with a personal-record distance of 15.87m (52-0.75).

Lasater won the men’s 1,500 meters, crossing the line in a career-best time of 3:44.50. Teammate Nat Estes took 12th in a time of 3:52.69.  

Greenwald won his first-ever 5,000 meters outdoor track race in a time of 14:11.27. Billy Koskiewicz placed ninth (14:48.11) and Patrick Fleming finished 13th (14:53.11).

Also on the track, Morgan Jackson logged a career-best time (4:32.56) and took sixth out of 43 runners in the 1,500 meters.

Christina Pensock took ninth out of 30 sprinters in the 400 meters in a time of 57.73, while Jazmyne Taylor took 14th in the same event in a time of 58.45. Ama Larbi ran the 400-hurdles in 1:01.23 to place third.

Caroline Kissel finished eighth overall and first for Tech in the 5,000 meters (17:27.86) while freshman Melissa Fairey placed 10th (17:31.78). Allison Brackin followed in personal-record time of 17:36.80 for 12th place and Kelly Meyer took 14th (17:38.78). 

In the field events, Nikita Kirillov placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 5.10m (16-8.75) and Nathan Daniel followed in fifth place in a personal-best distance of 5.00m (16-4.75).

Ashleigh Uhl placed ninth of 25 competitors in the javelin throw, launching the javelin a career-best 36.53m (119-10).

Carissa Tipler finished 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 11.81m (38-9) and Julia Frederick tied for eighth in the high jump (1.60m; 5-3).

The Jackets wrap up competition Saturday at the Alabama Relays beginning at 3 p.m. ET.
