The Good Word

TO: Fans, Friends, and Supporters of Georgia Tech Athletics

FROM: Dan Radakovich, Georgia Tech Director of Athletics

I send you greetings and wish all of our great Georgia Tech fans happy holidays. I appreciate the early response to our AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl ticket promotion. To date, nearly 2,500 tickets have been sold to our game with Air Force on Dec. 27 in Shreveport. While this is a good show of support, we still have work to do to reach our ticket goals. We need you to help us double that number in the coming days. Be reminded that we are still offering a $14 ticket price in honor of the Yellow Jackets attending their 14th consecutive bowl game.

I want to appeal to you, the fans, to do everything possible to actually make the trip to Shreveport and be in the stands for the game. It is very important we demonstrate we can pull together a great representation of our fans as we compete in the various bowls from year to year. A solid fan following remains of the utmost importance to the bowl committees associated with the ACC. So my plea today is that you shake up your holiday schedule and head over to Shreveport for a couple of days to support the Jackets. You can make the trip by car or plane, and the $14 ticket, dozens of economical hotels in the area and a good match-up with Air Force make this an attractive opportunity.

Additionally, we have had a number of fans purchase tickets to donate to charities and other groups, and we are appreciative of that. However, our overriding goal is to have you Tech fans in the seats at the game. Just click here and we’ll take you right into our online ticket page.

As we close the year – this will be the final Good Word of 2010 – I want to take time to thank you for your great support of Georgia Tech athletics. It has truly been a memorable year. We wish you the happiest of holidays and a healthy and prosperous 2011. Please click here to view the GTAA Holiday Card.

Basketball Home Game Saturday
Final exams await our student-athletes all of next week, but there is one home event this week. Men’s basketball will host Savannah State Saturday at 4 p.m. in Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Following Saturday’s game, the Yellow Jackets will be off for exam week before facing a strong Richmond team on Saturday, Dec. 18 in the first round of the Battle of Atlantis in the Bahamas.

Women’s Basketball Off Until Dec. 21
Coach MaChelle Joseph’s team will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 21 when it travels to Portland State. Two nights later, on Dec. 23, the Yellow Jackets continue their difficult schedule by playing at Washington.
