LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After a stellar junior season, outside hitter Teegan Van Gunst was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) East Coast All-Region Team. It marks Georgia Tech volleyball’s first AVCA All-Region award since 2012. Van Gunst is eligible to be voted an All-American by the AVCA All-American Committee, which will be announced Dec. 16.
“I’m very proud of Teegan for her tremendous season,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “She has grown so much in every aspect of the game and it is great to see her playing the game at such a high level. The game comes naturally to her and I am lucky to have the opportunity to coach such a hardworking, gifted athlete.”
A native of Fayetteville, Ga., Van Gunst was named to the 2015 All-ACC first team after leading the league in kills (471) and kills/set (3.92) at the end of the regular season. She is the first Yellow Jacket to earn the honor since All-American Monique Mead in 2012, and her 471 kills are the most by a Yellow Jacket since Mead put down 459 in 2012
Van Gunst started all 120 sets this season and scored 20 double-doubles. She tallied 25 matches with 10+ kills, and 23 matches with 10+ digs. Van Gunst was named the ACC Player of the Week twice (Sept.7, Sept. 28) and named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 team.
Van Gunst helped the Yellow Jackets to an 18-14 overall record in 2015, for the program’s first winning record in two years (19-12, 2012).
