Tech's Shanta Smith Tabbed ACC Indoor Performer of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Shanta Smith (Miami, Fla.) earned her first Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week honor this afternoon, announced by the league office. North Carolina’s Vikas Gowda was named men’s ACC Performer of the Week.

Smith tallied her second NCAA provisional mark in the triple jump with a first-place jump of 42′ 6.25″ at the Gator Invitational this past weekend. The Miami, Fla., native also posted an NCAA provisional time in the 400 meters as she crossed the finish line in a time of 54.77.

Gowda was the top collegiate performer in the men’s shot put at the North Carolina Invitational over the weekend. The Frederick, Md., native set the UNC indoor record in the event posting an NCAA provisional throw of 62′ 8″, good for tops in the conference.

Smith and the Yellow Jackets will next travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational February 6-7, while Gowda and the Tar Heels host the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday, February 7.
