April 1, 2002

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After posting a pair of dominant wins over league opponents, Georgia Tech freshman pitcher Jessica Sallinger was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday.

Sallinger, a native of Kennesaw, Ga., helped the Yellow Jackets to sweeps of Maryland and Virginia, earning two victories along the way. She no-hit the Terrapins for 6 2/3 innings and struck out 12 in a one-hit, 4-0 win on March 27. Against Virginia on Sunday, she allowed just one run on three hits and fanned nine in a 3-1 victory.

For the week, Sallinger recorded 21 strikeouts in 14 innings and allowed just four hits. She also held her opponents to a .089 batting average.

Sallinger is now 15-4 on the season with a 1.11 earned run average and has 175 strikeouts in 132 innings. Georgia Tech is currently 31-9 overall and 4-0 in ACC play.

She is the second Tech player to earn ACC Player of the Week accolades, as sophomore shortstop Tara Knudsen was honored March 11.

The Jackets return to action Wednesday when they host Georgia Southern for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Glenn Field. Tech took a pair from the Eagles in Statesboro on February 16.
