ATLANTA – Senior Soraya Reddick and junior Jessica Sallinger were named to the Athens Regional all-tournament team, announced Sunday afternoon. Sallinger and Reddick helped lead No. 23 Georgia Tech (47-19) to a third-place finish at the NCAA Softball Regional.
No. 8 and top-seeded Washington advanced to the College World Series today with a 3-1 win over second-seeded Georgia. The 10-th-ranked Bulldogs finished second (4-2), Tech third (2-2), Michigan State fourth (2-2), No. 24 Texas A&M (1-2) and UMass tied for fifth (1-2) and Chattanooga (0-2) and Eastern Kentucky (0-2) finished in a tie for seventh.
Reddick finished the regional 4-for-10, with a home run and one RBI. The Tampa, Fla., native made a diving catch on the warning track on Georgia’s Nicole Barber to preserve Tech’s 3-2 win over the Bulldogs on Friday afternoon. Reddick ended the season as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s leader in stolen bases (20).
Sallinger finished the Athens Regional with a record of 2-2 in the circle. The Kennesaw, Ga., native led the regional with 32 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched. She finished fourth with an ERA of 1.46 and tallied a shutout against No. 6 seed Massachusetts in Tech’s opening game of the regional. Sallinger set Tech single-season records in wins (31), shutouts (14), strikeouts (344) and ERA (0.82).
The Yellow Jackets ended the season with an overall record of 47-19. The 47 wins was the second most by a Jacket squad and Tech posted the program’s first win over a top-10 opponent earlier this season when the Rambling Wreck downed then-No. 9 Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-1, on Feb. 8.
