Tech's Miller & Shosho Advance to Round of 16 in NCAA Doubles Championships

May 25, 2006

PALO ALTO, Calif. – With a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Pepperdine’s top duo of Eva Dickes and Bianca Dulgheru in the opening round, Georgia Tech’s 10th-ranked duo of Kristi Miller and Lyndsay Shosho advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2006 NCAA Doubles Championships, which is being contested at the Taube Tennis Center on the campus of Stanford University.

The Jackets will face the Southern Cal duo of Lindsey Nelson and Luana Magnani Friday afternoon, after they upset Notre Dame’s third-seeded combination of Catrina and Christian Thompson. The time for Friday’s doubles match has yet to be determined.

Earlier in the day, the Yellow Jackets’ top-ranked Miller advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championships, which is also being played at the Taube Tennis Complext. After fighting for a three-set victory in her first round match the Georgia Tech sophomore cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Duke’s Jackie Carleton in the second round of the NCAA Singles Championships.

With the victory, Miller advances to face Northwestern’s Cristelle Grier in the Round of 16, which is scheduled to be played Friday at 10 a.m. PT.

Grier earned one of the top-16 seeds in the NCAA Singles Championships and advanced to tomorrow’s match with straight-set wins over Ekaterina Burduli of Washington State and Vanderbilt’s Amanda Fish.

Miller, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, has faced Grier on two prior occasions this season and has emerged victorious both times. The two first met in the fall, with Miller defeating Grier in straight sets, while Miller needed three sets to down the Northwestern All-American senior in the regular-season dual-match.

With the win Thursday afternoon, Miller improved her singles record to 40-6 on the season, including a 25-6 mark against ranked opponents.
