ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s Caitlin Lever was named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. Lever, a senior from Amherst, N.Y., earns the honor for the second consecutive week.
Lever led Georgia Tech to an 8-1 record last week and the Silver Bracket Championship at Buzz Classic. The outfielder started the week with a perfect 4-for-4 performance in a 14-6 victory over Oakland. On Wednesday, the outfielder drove in the game-winning run for the Jackets in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs to lead Tech to a four-run come-from-behind victory over Chattanooga, 6-5.
On Friday at the Buzz Classic, Lever went 3-for-4 against New Mexico in the opening game for the Rambling Wreck, smashing a home run and driving in four runs. On day two of the Buzz, Lever went a combined 5-for-6 against Lipscomb and Centenary in a pair of Tech wins as she drove in four runs and had one double.
In bracket play, Lever brought the Jackets back from a two-run deficit against Middle Tennessee in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs with a two-run double off the left field fence to tie the game, finishing 2-for-3, with two runs scored, two runs batted in and one double. In the Silver title game against Iowa, Lever blasted a three-run home run, going 3-for-4, with one run scored and three RBIs to lead Tech to a 6-0 victory over the Hawkeyes.
Lever finished the week hitting .613 (19-for-31), with a 1.032 slugging percentage, 11 runs scored, 15 RBIs, two home runs, five doubles and one triple. She also stole five bases in six attempts for the week and was named to the Buzz Classic All-Tournament Team.
The 21st-ranked Yellow Jackets will travel to Clearwater, Fla., for the USF adidas Invitational, March 8-11. Tech will take on Indiana, Northern Illinois, Massachusetts and Illinois-Chicago in pool play.
