Tech's Lapsley, Person and Rogers Claim ACC Titles At Indoor ACC Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Seniors Montrell Person and Dana Rogers and junior Andriane Lapsley captured Atlantic Coast Conference titles on Saturday afternoon to lead the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Indoor ACC Championships in the Eddie Smith Field House. Miami won the women’s competition with 138 points, while Tech finished third with 98 points. Florida State captured the men’s meet with 162.50 points and Tech finished fifth, scoring 50 points.

Person claimed his second consecutive ACC title in the men’s 60-meter high hurdles with a NCAA Provisional time of 7.81. Rogers won her first ACC crown in the women’s 60m hurdles with a time of 8.26. The East Point, Ga., native finished sixth in the 200 meters (24.72) and eighth in the 60-meter dash (7.70).

Lapsley won her first ACC title in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.45. The San Antonio, Texas, native also tallied All-ACC honors in the 200-meter dash with a personal-record time of 24.12 to finish in second place, and finished sixth in the 60m hurdles with a PR time of 8.44.

Senior Brian Ford posted a runner-up finish in the men’s 400 meters with a time of 47.86 and ran a personal-record time of 21.60 in the 200 meters to tally his second all-conference honors of the day.

Sophomore Ashlee Kidd tallied two top-three finishes for the Jackets in the 200 and 400 meters. The St. Petersburg, Fla., native logged a NCAA Provisional time of 53.94 in the 400 to finish second and finished third in the 200 with an indoor personal-record time of 24.13.

Freshman Jerome Miller tied for first place in the men’s high jump with an indoor season-best mark of 6’11.75″, but lost the jump off at that same mark to finish in second place, earning All-ACC honors. Junior Brandy Depland garnered All-ACC honors for the first time at the indoor ACC meet in the women’s triple jump, finishing third with a NCAA Provisional leap of 42’9.50″.

Following Rogers and Lapsley in the women’s 60m hurdles was freshman Shantia Moss and sophomore Fatmata Fofanah. Moss crossed the finish line in third place with a NCAA Provisional time 8.33 to earn All-ACC honors, while Fofanah finished fourth with a NCAA Provisional time of 8.36.

Sophomore James Lemons II posted a personal-record mark of 49’1.50″ to lead the men in the triple jump, finishing in fourth place. After winning her fifth straight ACC title in the high jump yesterday afternoon, junior Chaunte Howard posted a sixth-place finish in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 41’4.50″.

In the men’s shot put, Senior Zeb Sion tallied a fifth-place finish in the men’s shot put with a mark of 57’7″ and senior Jonathan Spillman had a personal-record toss of 56’0.50″ to finish in eighth place.

Senior Jennifer Lentz was the final top-eight finisher for the Yellow Jackets on the final day of competition. The Brevard, N.C., native clocked a time of 2:14.49 in the women’s 800 meters to finish in sixth place.
