ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s Tara Knudsen and Florida State’s Jessica van der Linden were named Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Players of the Week, announced by the league office. Knudsen earns the honor for the second time this season.
Knudsen led the Yellow Jackets to a 6-2 record last week, including a 4-2 record at the 12th Annual Buzz Classic. Knudsen went 3-for-7 in a doubleheader against Ball State earlier in the week, driving in one run on the afternoon.
In the Buzz Classic, the shortstop hit .625, with two home runs and seven RBIs. Knudsen went 3-for-3 in Tech’s opening game against Austin Peay, driving in two of the three runs scored by the Yellow Jackets with her seventh home run of the season.
Knudsen drove in another run against Ohio and walked a pair of times against the Bobcats and Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, going 1-for-2 in a 13-0 win over WKU in five innings.
The Thornton, Colo., native then exploded against Iowa State and Co-Champion Connecticut, going a combined 6-for-6, with two doubles, one home run, one walk and four runs batted in.
Knudsen finished the week hitting .565, with two home runs, eight RBIs, seven runs scored, two doubles, three walks and two stolen bases.
FSU’s Jessica van der Linden hit .438 for the week and slugged .625, she also was 6-1 with a 0.32 ERA and a save for the week.
Georgia Tech will host Ohio on Tuesday, March 23, for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Glenn Field.
