PANTHERSVILLE, Ga. – Georgia Tech’s Jessica Sallinger (4-0) struck out a season-high 13 batters to tally her second no-hitter of the season to lead the Yellow Jackets past Georgia State, 6-0, in the opening game of the Georgia State Tournament at Bob Heck Field. Senior Soraya Reddick and junior Katie Donovan each homered for the Jackets. Tech improves to 6-1, while GSU falls to 0-1.
The Yellow Jackets grabbed the lead in the top of the second inning as senior Tara Knudsen hit a ball up the middle and GSU shortstop Mary Katheryne Branan fumbled the ball, allowing junior Kirin Kumar to score to give Tech a 1-0 lead.
The Jackets pushed another run across in the fourth inning as senior catcher Tasha Waugh collected her first double and RBI of the season to score junior Liz Bartle who singled as Tech led 2-0.
Reddick gave the Rambling Wreck a 3-0 lead with her second home run of the season to lead off the fifth inning. Donovan singled with two outs up the middle and then stole second base to give the Jackets a runner in scoring position. Bartle delivered for Tech with a two-out RBI single to left field as Tech led 4-0 after five innings of play.
The Jackets added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning as Donovan blasted her first home run of the season to center field as Tech downed the Lady Panthers, 6-0.
Reddick and Donovan led the Yellow Jackets offensively, both going 2-for-4. Reddick finished with one run batted in, while Donovan drove in two runs for Tech. Bartle went 2-for-3 for the Jackets with an RBI, while Waugh finished 1-for-4, with a double and a RBI.
