Tech's Comeback Falls Short to Friars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Despite a late rally in the seventh to tie the game, Georgia Tech softball (0-1) fell 4-3 in extra innings to Providence (1-1) on Friday evening in its opening game of the River City Leadoff.

The Yellow Jackets debuted their all navy adidas uniforms.

In the top of the sixth, sophomore Breanna Roper loaded the bases on a single through the right side after senior Katie Krzus drew a walk and sophomore Tricia Awald was hit by a pitch.

Pinch hitter Drew Puckett drove in Krzus and Awald with a two-RBI double to put Tech on the board.

Sophomore Rebecca Prairie brought home Awald on an RBI double to knot the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh. Junior Amber Johns came into the circle to force the game into extra innings.

Up next:
Tech has a rematch with Providence on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 10:30 a.m. to kick off day two of the River City Leadoff before facing off against UMass-Lowell at 1 p.m.
