Tech's Brewer, Sion Post Wins at Knoxville Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Georgia Tech freshmen throwers Ian Brewer and Zeb Sion posted wins in the hammer throw and shot put, respectively, as the Yellow Jacket men and women’s track and field teams wrapped up a busy weekend of competition at the Knoxville Invitational Sunday.

Brewer had a very successful afternoon, as he won the hammer with a throw of 178’05.00″, and also placed third in the discus with a season-best toss of 161’10.00″.

Sion took first in the shot put with a mark of 54’10.00″, and teammate Jonathan Spillman placed second in 53’8.50″. Sion (sixth) and Spillman (seventh) also competed in the discus.

Freshman Anthony Hoover placed second in the javelin with his top mark of the season (193’07.00″), while classmate Alex Berardi was ninth in the pole vault (15’03.50″).

As for the women, freshman Lauren Reimer was third in the javelin (112’07.00″) and fourth in the shot put (40’00.00″), while Tiffany Turner took fifth in the hammer throw (146’07.00″).

Tech returns to action this weekend at Stanford’s Cardinal Qualifier and Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Classic.
