Perfect Game Release
THE FLATS – Georgia Tech sophomore catcher Joey Bart was named both the National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and the ACC Baseball Player of the Week on Monday for his outstanding play for the Jackets from Feb. 27-Mar. 5.
On Tuesday, he added another weekly award as he was named the Pefect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week.
Starting all four games behind the plate for the Jackets last week, Bart blasted five home runs over the four-game span last week, hitting at least one home run in every game and posting his first career multi-home run game as a Jacket on Saturday in the 10-2 win over Belmont with two home runs. His five home runs has pushed him up to the top of the home runs list for NCAA DI players this season.
Hitting in the No. 3 hole in the lineup, Bart hit .529 overall for the week, going 9-for-17, and recorded a slugging percentage of 1.471 percent overall. His on-base percentage was .600, as he scored eight runs and drove in 11 RBIs in Tech’s four games. Bart, who was also 1-for-1 in the stolen base department on the week, had three multi-hit games, three multi-RBI games and reached base safely in all four games last week for Tech.
Behind the plate, Bart recorded 37 putouts, did not commit an error, nor did he have a single baserunner try to steal on him throughout the week.
It is both the first national and conference weekly award honor for the sophomore.
He is the first Jacket to receive the weekly recognition from Collegiate Baseball since Trevor Craport did last season on May 16, 2016.
Bart and the Jackets (9-2) will be in action tomorrow evening, Mar. 7, as they hit the road to face off with Kennesaw State at 5 p.m. ET.
