ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s track and field team wrapped up a strong weekend at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet with four top 10 finishes in the 60 meters and 60 meter hurdle events. The two-day meet was hosted by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
In the day’s opening event, junior Alisha McClinton placed fifth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.59 seconds. She was followed by freshman Amandi Rhett, who placed seventh with a time of 7.66 seconds. Sophomore Jessica DeFreitas finished 12th in the finals with her time of 7.73 seconds.
Rhett also competed in the 200 meters, and finished 12th with the second-best time by a Tech runner this year of 24.96 seconds.
The Yellow Jackets’ other top-10 finishers both competed in the 60-meter hurdle event, as junior Tosan Osaigbovo and freshman Melanie Waits placed fourth and sixth respectively. Osaigbovo turned in a personal season-best time of 8.67 seconds, and Waits finished with a mark of 8.93 seconds.
In the day’s final event for the Yellow Jackets, senior Becky Megesi placed 16th in the mile with a time of 5:15.30.
Georgia Tech will next compete in the Florida Fast Times Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., beginning on Wednesday, February 28.
