COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will look to bounce back from its first loss since November when it travels to Maryland to face the Terrapins in an Atlantic Coast Conference match-up at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md., beginning at 2 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets are off to the best start in school history with their 11-2 record despite dropping their ACC opener to North Carolina on Thursday. The 11 wins to open the season topped the previous best of 10-1 held by the 1991 squad.
Tech will look to return to the form it showed during its school-record 10-game win streak against when it becomes the first ACC team to visit Maryland’s (6-6, 0-1 ACC) newly-build state-of-the-art Comcast Center.
Junior forward Fallon Stokes turned in one of the top performances in the ACC this year in the Jackets’ loss to UNC. The Atlanta native poured in a career-best 34 points against the Tar Heels on 13-of-24 shooting from the field. The point total is the best by an ACC player this year, as Stokes also added eight rebounds in the contest. Earlier in the week, she was named as a member of the Atlanta Marriott NW Invitational all-tournament team.
Earlier in the week, the Jackets captured the Atlanta Marriott NW Invitational title with wins over St. John’s and East Carolina, getting key contributions from a number of players, including junior guard Megan Isom, who earned MVP honors in the tournament.
Isom scored 30 points in the two games, including 23 in the championship game to go along with five steals against the Pirates. She also had nine rebounds against St. Johns.
Isom’s back court mate Alex Stewart joined her on the all-tournament team, as she led all scorers with a career-high 17 points against St. John’s. Stewart has been perfect at the free throw line of late, having now made 22-straight free throws.
