Tech Women's Basketball Travels to NC State on Thursday

Feb. 26, 2003

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will look to extend its Atlantic Coast Conference unbeaten streak to three when it travels to Raleigh, N.C., to face NC State in a key conference match-up that will tip off at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum.

The Yellow Jackets (17-9, 6-8 ACC) continued to build on the momentum gained by a 30-point home win over Florida State, by picking up a key ACC road win on Sunday at Clemson. The victory gave Tech its first win at Clemson since 1996 and its first season sweep of the Tigers since that same year. The Wolfpack (11-14, 6-8 ACC) will be coming off of a 65-62 win over Wake Forest on Sunday.

Tech continued to use solid defensive pressure along with a tenacious rebounding effort and improved outside shooting to down Clemson and Florida State. Against the Tigers, the Jackets claimed a 47-28 rebound advantage and hit on 6-of-13 attempts from beyond the three-point arc, while recording six steals.

The Jackets have gotten stellar performances from a number of different players in recent games, including the game at Clemson, as five Tech players scored in double figures. Rookie guard Megan Harpring had a career day, as she netted a career-high 15 points and grabbed a career-best six rebounds. That effort capped an outstanding week for Harpring, as she was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the first time.

Harpring was joined in double figures by senior center Sonja Mallory, who recorded her 10th double-double of the year with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Junior forward Fallon Stokes had 16 points in the game, while junior guard Alex Stewart was impressive with 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Freshman guard Mallorie Winn was the fifth Yellow Jacket in double figures, as she scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds, while dishing out three assists.
