Tech Women's Basketball Travels to Florida State for ACC Match-Up

Jan. 19, 2003

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will take to the road for its second-straight Atlantic Coast Conference game when it travels to face Florida State on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla. The game will be televised on the ACC’s Regional Sports Network, which includes Fox Sports Net South and the Sunshine Network.

The Yellow Jackets (11-5, 0-4 ACC) will be looking for a second-straight victory in Tallahassee when they take on the Seminoles (11-4, 3-1 ACC) today. Tech is 7-5 all-time on the road against FSU in history.

Georgia Tech has started out 0-4 in the conference, having faced both of the league’s top two teams in No. 1 Duke and No. 8 North Carolina in the process. Three of the Jackets’ five losses on the year have come to teams that are currently ranked among the top 10 in the nation.

Junior forward Fallon Stokes has continued a trend that she began a year ago by saving her biggest outings of the year for conference play. The Atlanta native poured in a career-best 34 points against North Carolina on 13-of-24 shooting from the field. The point total is the second best by an ACC player this year, as Stokes also added eight rebounds in the contest. She also netted 21 points against the top-ranked Blue Devils on Jan. 13 and had a game-high 15 points against Virginia. Stokes’ 20.5-point scoring average in conference games is second-best in the ACC.

Junior guard Alex Stewart has scored in double figures five of Tech’s last six games after netting 14 against Virginia. Stewart also netted 10 against Maryland, 11 points against North Carolina, 10 against East Carolina and a career-high 17 against St. John’s. The Norcross, Ga., native has also hit on 25 of her last 26 free throws and leads the league in free throw percentage (.902). Stewart handed out five assists against Virginia, upping her team-leading total to 102, an average of 6.38 per game, which leads the ACC.
