ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech volleyball team, winners of five of their last seven matches, will hit the road for a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference matchups against Miami (9-14, 6-8 ACC) and Florida State (15-5, 9-2 ACC) this weekend. The Jackets are currently 13-10 on the season and have posted a 5-8 mark in ACC matches.
Friday’s match against Miami will begin at 4 p.m. in Coral Gables, and the Jackets’ match vs. Florida State in Tallahassee will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday. Live video for both matches can be found on ACC Select (gatech.playonsports.tv) while livestats will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com.
The Jackets and Hurricanes will be squaring off for the fifth time in history, with both teams earning two wins in the series. The Jackets are 1-0 against Miami in Coral Gables.
Tech holds a 24-8 lead against Florida State in the series that dates back to 1991. The Yellow Jackets are 8-5 in Tallahassee and have won eight of 10 matches against the Seminoles under Georgia Tech head coach Bond Shymansky.
The Jackets are coming off a weekend in which they recorded a pair of victories over 25th-ranked Duke and Wake Forest, which resulted in sophomore middle hitter Callie Miller being named the ACC Volleyball Player of the Week award.
The Whitehouse, Ohio native is currently leading the team in hitting percentage (.321) while averaging 2.38 kills and 0.97 blocks per game. She joined sophomores Allie Niekamp (.315/1.24 Kpg/11.75 Apg/0.37 SApg/2.36 Dpg) and Talisa Kellogg (3.54 Kpg/0.73 Bpg) as the only Yellow Jackets to earn the honor this season.
The matches at Miami and Florida State will begin a four-match road swing for the Jackets, which will conclude next weekend when they face N.C. State and North Carolina. Georgia Tech will then conclude the regular season with five-consecutive home matches.
