ATLANTA – Riding a four-match winning streak, the Georgia Tech volleyball team (15-10, 7-8 ACC) is heading to the state of North Carolina this weekend for its final set of regular-season road matches, facing N.C. State (2-23, 0-16 ACC) Friday night before meeting the North Carolina Tar Heels (7-18, 5-11 ACC) Sunday afternoon.
Friday’s match will begin at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of N.C. State, and livestats for the matchup will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com. The Jackets will have Saturday off due to the UNC-Georgia Tech football game in Chapel Hill before meeting the Tar Heels Sunday at 1 p.m. Live video for Sunday’s match will be available on ACC Select (gatech.playonsports.tv) and livestats can be found at www.ramblinwreck.com.
The Yellow Jackets have won 14-straight over N.C. State and hold a 30-12 record against the Wolfpack overall. North Carolina holds the 27-17 edge in the series against Georgia Tech, but the Jackets are 5-4 versus the Tar Heels since head coach Bond Shymansky took over the program in 2002. Tech won both matches against the `Pack and `Heels earlier this season.
After beginning conference play with an 0-6 record, the Jackets have won seven of their last nine matches, including each of the last four. They are led by sophomore middle hitter Callie Miller (.326, 2.41 Kpg, 0.74 Bpg) and junior middle/right side hitter Ulrike Stegemann (.316, 2.89 Kpg, 0.61 Apg, 1.65 Dpg) while sophomore outside hitter Talisa Kellogg is pacing the team with 3.55 kills per game.
Three of the Yellow Jackets’ last four wins have come against teams in the top-half of the ACC standings, including an exciting five-game victory over Duke two weeks ago, which is the Blue Devils’ only conference loss of the season.
Following this weekend’s matches, Georgia Tech will return to Atlanta for five-straight home matches to close out the regular season, beginning with a meeting against Clemson Tuesday at 7 p.m.
