THE FLATS – Georgia Tech learned Thursday that its first road game of the 2014 season – Sept. 6 at Tulane – will kick-off at 4 p.m. (EST)/3 p.m. (CST) in New Orleans and will be televised by ESPNews.
The first meeting between the Yellow Jackets and Green Wave in more than 30 years will dedicate Tulane’s new football facility, Yulman Stadium.
The announcement means that the first one-fourth of Georgia Tech’s football schedule is now set with game times and TV assignments. The Jackets’ season opener Aug. 30 vs. Wofford will kick at 12:30 on RSN-TV. The Sept. 13 home game vs. Georgia Southern will also be televised by RSN (which includes Fox Sports South locally) at noon.
While the Sept. 6 game marks the first meeting between the two teams since 1982, Tech and Tulane have 48 previous meetings with the Yellow Jackets leading the all-time series, 35-13. Georgia Tech has played only six teams (Georgia, Auburn, Duke, Clemson, Alabama and North Carolina) more frequently. The Jackets and Green Wave, both original members of the Southeastern Conference, met every season from 1956 through ’82.
While Georgia Tech makes numerous appearances on ESPN’s family of networks, the Sept. 6 game will mark the first time the Yellow Jackets have played on ESPNews.
The game at Tulane will also be a homecoming for Yellow Jacket redshirt senior running back Tony Zenon, who grew up in New Orleans but was forced to move to Albany (Ga.) because of Hurricane Katrina.
