Tech Travels to Miami for Rematch

Feb. 6, 2008

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (18-4, 5-3 ACC) will travel to Miami (8-14, 1-6) Thursday for the two teams’ second meeting of the season. Tip-off at the BankUnited Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Fans can follow all the action on WREK Radio (91.1 FM/www.wrek.org), Georgia Tech women’s basketball’s flagship station. The game can also be seen online at ACCSelect.com.

The Yellow Jackets will try and sweep the regular season series with Miami for the second-straight year. Tech defeated the Hurricanes, 68-65, at Alexander Memorial Coliseum on Jan. 13. Alex Montgomery nailed a three-point basket from the corner with a second remaining to give Tech its fifth consecutive win over the Hurricanes.

“Our first game with Miami was a battle,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “We had to come-from-behind to win on a last second shot so Miami has our team’s attention. We know how important every Atlantic Coast Conference game is and we have learned to win on the road. We expect a 40 minute battle with Miami.”

The two teams are meeting on the hardwood for the 13th time with the series tied at six games apiece. This will also mark the eighth game between the two squads over the past three seasons.

Tech returns to the court having won two straight home games. The Jackets defeated Clemson, 77-59, last Thursday and knocked off Florida State, 83-73, Sunday. Chioma Nnamaka recorded 43 points on the week and was named ACC Player of the Week.

After the game, Tech will return to Atlanta for a Sunday, Feb. 10 meeting with No. 3/3 North Carolina. The Jackets will “Think Pink” as they debut their pink uniforms in support of the fight against breast cancer. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
